The statue “Our Lady of Mercy , Mother of Martyrs” was named in honor of all Rmeich’s martyrs, including Georges El-Hajj, who was killed defending the village before the year 2000. He had originally suggested placing a statue of Jesus, but after his death, his son Michel El-Hajj decided to build a statue of the Virgin Mary on the same foundation. The statue was carved In Jezzine from a special “Michelangelo White Granite” stone brought from Saida. It was inaugurated and blessed by Bishop Maroun Sader on May 28, 2001.
